The Prime Minister has made a commitment to support upcoming generations by introducing a range of agreements to enhance the “clean energy revolution.”
Keir Starmer is scheduled to engage with international leaders at COP 30 in Belem, Brazil, where he will emphasize the significance of clean energy as a key economic opportunity in the 21st century, capable of fostering job creation and economic expansion.
His address coincides with the announcement of partnerships with various companies, including ScottishPower, JERA Nex bp, EnBW, and Statera Energy by government officials.
Prior to his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that the UK has received £50 billion in investments in clean energy sectors since the previous year, with an anticipated creation of 800,000 jobs by the decade’s end.
Expressing determination, he stated, “Our mission to drive the clean power revolution forward is in full swing – ensuring energy security, reducing bills permanently, and stimulating growth in communities throughout the UK.”
He added, “By generating skilled, well-paid positions in regions like Great Yarmouth, Belfast, and Greater Manchester, we are witnessing national rejuvenation in progress – advocating for the welfare of working individuals nationwide.”
“I am committed to not disappointing future generations. At COP30, I will continue to showcase UK leadership on the global stage, collaborating with others to uphold our values and secure our future.”
The agreements include a sum exceeding £100 million to Belfast Harbour for supporting the development of two significant offshore wind farms in the Irish Sea. Carrington in Greater Manchester will host one of the UK’s largest battery facilities.
Furthermore, investments are allocated to the Port of East Anglia, with £15 million earmarked for constructing a new operations and maintenance center, and Scottish Power backing the East Anglia TWO windfarm in the North Sea. Additionally, Scottish Power and Peel Ports Group will invest £10 million to enhance the port’s Northern Terminal for future offshore wind projects, supporting approximately 100 jobs.
In a resolute affirmation of Britain’s energy commitments, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband asserted, “The UK’s message at COP30 is clear: collaborative efforts to combat climate change lead to favorable employment opportunities, energy security, and economic progress – let’s proceed with determination.”
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister informed sixth form students of his participation in COP due to the “undeniable obligation to protect the planet for future generations, as well as to secure hundreds of thousands of jobs in the country.”
