“Tragic Home Invasion Claims Lives of Young Family”

Published:

Two months into their new residence, Justin and Amber Hicks, along with their two-year-old son Jacob, were tragically killed by an intruder in their home. The couple, enjoying a quiet evening watching TV, had no knowledge of the impending danger as they were attacked. Their son, miraculously spared, was left alone amidst the aftermath for 12 hours.

The fatal incident occurred when the perpetrator, identified as their neighbor Matthew Scott Lanz, broke into the Hicks’ home and fatally shot the couple, leaving little Jacob behind. The young boy witnessed the horrific event as his parents were mercilessly murdered.

Following the shooting, evidence suggests that the toddler attempted to seek comfort from his lifeless parents and even played near them. Lanz is now facing murder charges and a count of cruelty to children in relation to the tragic events in Cherokee County, Georgia.

Despite the harrowing ordeal, the toddler was found physically unharmed after being left unattended for hours. Friends of the slain couple revealed their joy at finding their dream home, while highlighting Justin’s role as a respected firefighter in the county.

The accused, Lanz, has faced delays in his trial due to concerns over his mental competence. Although diagnosed with schizophrenia, a court deemed him fit to stand trial based on his ability to make rational decisions. Lanz’s defense claims he believes he was framed by governmental agencies.

The legal proceedings are ongoing as the case continues to unfold.
