Tragic Deaths of Parents on Daughter’s Birthday Celebration
A couple celebrating their four-year-old daughter’s birthday tragically passed away in a scorching motel bathtub after a night of revelry.
Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, aged 37, and Ana Carolina Silva, aged 41, had joyfully marked their daughter’s special day at a food park, indulging in drinks before venturing to a nightclub.
Jeferson, a military police officer, and Ana, a nail salon owner, entrusted their child to Jeferson’s sister before checking into the Dallas Motel in São José, Brazil’s Santa Catarina state, shortly after midnight on August 11.
However, the couple did not return to retrieve their daughter the next day, prompting concerned family members to contact the authorities. Subsequently, the lifeless bodies of the couple were discovered in the motel bathroom.
Following a thorough investigation of the hotel room, surveillance footage analysis, and scrutiny of the couple’s vehicle, forensic experts determined that the husband and wife had lost consciousness in a bathtub filled with 50°C water while a heater emitted heat into the room.
A toxicology examination revealed significantly elevated alcohol levels and traces of cocaine, as reported by local news outlet Globo G1.
Chief Medical Examiner Andressa Boer Fronza of Brazil stated, “The cause of both deaths was exogenous poisoning, leading to heatstroke with severe dehydration, thermal collapse, organ failure, and eventual demise.”
After conducting 16 forensic tests to eliminate potential causes such as electric shock, drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning, or foul play, investigators concluded that heat exposure was the fatal factor.
The couple, who had been in a relationship for nearly two decades, were known among friends as dedicated parents and outgoing individuals, with no record of violence, according to law enforcement.
Ana Carolina’s family refuted allegations of her being a habitual drug user, raising concerns that she might have been coerced into drug consumption. Chief Simão remarked, “It is possible that their physical constitution was not suitable for such substances, particularly when combined with alcohol.”
Sadly, the couple’s daughter is now under the care of relatives after her parents’ birthday celebration turned into a tragedy, leaving her orphaned.
This incident follows another heartbreaking event where a young student was found deceased on her 22nd birthday after being in a hot tub.
Alexandra Săsărman was discovered lifeless in the jacuzzi at her family’s cabin, where she was celebrating with friends, having suffered a fatal cardiac arrest, possibly due to the high water temperature.
