“Tragic Accident: Man Killed by Dog in Van Mishap”

Published:

A tragic incident unfolded as a man lost his life due to an unforeseen accident involving a dog in a van. James Campbell tragically passed away in 2013 after a pet dog inadvertently caused a fatal accident while he was assisting his wife in maneuvering their vehicle onto their driveway.

The 68-year-old resident of Cantonment, Tampa, Florida, was fatally injured in January that year while attempting to park his 1995 Chevrolet van. As Campbell exited the van to open the driveway gates, leaving the door ajar, his wife, Iris Fortner, was behind the wheel checking his position.

The family pet, excited to see its owners, leaped into the driver’s seat and accidentally hit the accelerator, causing the van to reverse and tragically run over Campbell. Despite his wife’s efforts to stop the van, it was too late, and Campbell was fatally injured, succumbing to his injuries at the scene.

While his wife sustained minor injuries and was taken to West Florida Hospital, no charges were filed in connection with the incident. The combination of a running engine, a loose dog, and a vehicle in gear proved to be a deadly mix in this heartbreaking accident.

In a separate but equally strange incident in the same month, a homeowner in Miami was forced to shoot a naked intruder who was found trying to harm their pet dog. The homeowner, awakened by their dog’s barking, discovered the intruder attempting to choke the dog. In response, the homeowner fired shots, hitting the intruder in the leg before apprehending him and contacting the police.

Miami Police Department spokesperson Willie Moreno described the intruder’s behavior as irrational and justified the homeowner’s actions, noting the individual’s aggressive behavior towards both the dog and the homeowner.
