Tiger Woods’ hopes for a golf comeback were dealt a significant blow as the 15-time major champion revealed he underwent another surgery following his 2021 car crash. Woods, a former world No. 1, has seen his ranking plummet to 2001 due to limited participation in events since then, with his last competition being in 2024 where he missed the cut at the Open.
Despite plans to return at the Genesis Invitational in February, Woods withdrew from the event following his mother’s passing. His prospects for a comeback took another hit with his recent announcement of a seventh back surgery. The procedure, a lumbar disc replacement in the L4/5 region, was successfully conducted by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi and his team at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
Given the extent of his medical treatments, it is anticipated that Woods will need at least a year before contemplating a return to golf. His fitness progress was disrupted in March by an Achilles tendon rupture during training. Since his car accident in 2021, Woods has faced multiple injuries that have impacted his performance on the course.
While Woods remains active in supporting his son’s golf endeavors, playing with him at events like the 2024 PNC Championship, the likelihood of his return to professional golf seems uncertain. With his latest surgery and ongoing health challenges, the road back to PGA Tour competition appears challenging for the golf legend.
