Teen Boy Surfaces After Crocodile Attack

Published:

A crocodile attacked a teenage boy who was fishing with friends. The 14-year-old, part of a non-local group of three, was fishing in waist-deep water when the incident occurred. Despite being caught in a ‘death roll’ by the crocodile, he survived. He was swiftly taken to a nearby hotel for initial treatment of his leg and abdomen injuries before being airlifted to Cairns Hospital. As of Sunday night, he was reported to be in stable condition.

The attack occurred 100km north of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia, on a Saturday afternoon. According to a spokesperson from the Queensland Ambulance Service, the teenager sustained wounds to his leg and abdomen during the crocodile encounter.

This incident follows a tragic crocodile attack where a tourist lost his life after disregarding warning signs at a game reserve in South Africa. The 56-year-old father, accompanied by his family, ignored multiple warnings to stay away from the water and was dragged into the river by a 12-foot crocodile at the Bonamanzi Game Reserve near Durban.

An eyewitness described the horrifying scene, emphasizing the futility of rescue efforts given the crocodile’s strength and size. The victim, identified as a 56-year-old South African from Richards Bay, had reportedly booked a weekend stay with his family at the reserve. The reserve offers live feeding experiences for guests, although it is unclear if this activity was available on the day of the attack.
