Several Taylor Swift tracks have been taken down from social media videos shared by the U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House, which have utilized two of the popular American singer’s songs in the past week. Responses were not immediately provided by the White House or a representative for Swift when requested for comments.
Swift has not publicly addressed Trump recently, but she did endorse his Democratic opponent, then Vice-President Kamala Harris, in 2024. During the 2020 election, Swift expressed on social media her disapproval of Trump as president.
Trump has been openly critical of Swift. Following her endorsement of Harris, the Republican leader expressed his disdain for Swift on social media. He has previously made derogatory comments about her physical appearance in response to her political views.
Numerous artists, such as Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have urged the Trump administration not to use their music in any context.
In a recent development, the Trump campaign featured two Swift songs on its TikTok page, with one video referencing the singer’s well-known tracks. This was not the first time the Trump administration or campaign had incorporated Swift’s music into their promotional content.
In a separate instance, the White House shared a TikTok video in November that included a song from Swift’s latest album. This specific video sparked significant reactions on social media platforms and was later defended by a White House spokesperson as a deliberate strategy to garner media attention.
The Trump administration’s communications team, known for its active social media presence, has frequently paired popular songs with visuals related to various political events and policies, including immigration enforcement and military actions.
The use of artists’ music by political figures without consent continues to be a contentious issue, with many musicians voicing their objections to such practices.
