A female British tourist has reported being sexually assaulted by a hotel employee during her stay in Greece. The incident occurred on the island of Kos, where the 45-year-old woman alleged that a 42-year-old Nigerian man assaulted her in her hotel room around 7pm. The tourist claimed that the employee took advantage of her intoxicated state.
Authorities on the popular resort island launched a search for the suspect and subsequently apprehended him. The man is currently in custody and is expected to face the prosecutor at the Kos District Court on a yet-to-be-determined date.
This incident follows other reports of sexual assaults on tourists in Greece earlier this year. One incident involved a tourist in Rhodes accusing her masseuse of inappropriate behavior during a massage at her hotel. The victim expressed feeling uncomfortable and subsequently filed a lawsuit related to the incident.
In a separate case on Rhodes, a 16-year-old British girl alleged that she was raped in the sea in front of a crowded beach. The incident reportedly took place at Ialysos beach while the girl was on vacation with her family. The girl and her father reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of a 15-year-old Belgian boy.
The suspect claimed that the interaction was consensual, stating that they were both guests at the same resort. The case has been referred to an investigating officer for further legal action by the Public Prosecutor on the island.
