Seaford Councillor Assaulted Over Flag Dispute

A woman in her 40s, identified as a sitting councillor, was reportedly pushed to the ground by two men while confronting them during the placement of flags along the A259 in Seaford, Sussex. According to reports, an altercation ensued after the councillor approached the men, leading to the alleged physical confrontation.

Sussex Police disclosed that they are investigating the incident, which occurred around 9 pm on Monday. Following the assault, a 29-year-old man from Peacehaven was taken into custody on suspicion of assault and later released on bail. Authorities are actively seeking the second individual involved in the altercation.

In response to the incident, Lewes District Council confirmed the councillor’s involvement but refrained from providing further details, citing the ongoing police investigation. The council emphasized that the matter is being handled by law enforcement.

The police department issued a statement stating that the woman, a resident of Seaford, was reportedly assaulted by two men on Sutton Park Road. They urged any witnesses to come forward with information or any relevant footage, such as CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone recordings.
