Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have encountered screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances where text disappears completely, while others only see blank white boxes instead of their email content.
Frustrated individuals have taken to social media platforms to express their discontent. One user named Jeremiah posted on X, addressing Gmail directly and expressing concern over the ongoing flickering problem on his Samsung Fold device, specifically on the inner screen.
Similar grievances have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with one user detailing the persistent screen flickering that interferes with email readability. Despite attempting various troubleshooting steps like force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, and device restarts, the problem persists.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has identified the root cause as a glitch related to Android System WebView, a crucial component that enables apps to display web content internally. Kitani mentioned that certain devices, notably Samsung tablets, are experiencing intermittent issues with this component, which has been escalated to Google for resolution.
While the exact number of affected users remains uncertain, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and select Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted.
In the interim, a temporary workaround has been suggested. Kitani recommends rotating the device as a quick fix to halt the flickering. By opening emails in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode until the screen stabilizes, and then switching back to portrait mode, users may alleviate the issue temporarily.
This temporary solution offers relief while affected users await a permanent fix from Google.
