Ryan Moore is not expected to return to horse racing until next year, as revealed by trainer Aidan O’Brien. The renowned jockey, who rides for O’Brien’s Ballydoyle stable, has been sidelined since September due to a stress fracture of the femur. Christophe Soumillon has been filling in for Moore and has achieved success by winning several Group 1 races on Ballydoyle horses.
Soumillon is set to continue riding for O’Brien at upcoming events, including the Qipco British Champion’s Day at Ascot. He will be partnering with horses like Stay True, Bedtime Story, The Lion In Winter, and Delacroix in different races. Despite Moore being present at recent fixtures as a spectator, it seems likely that Soumillon will remain in the saddle for the remainder of 2025, including the Breeders’ Cup in November.
During a media conference for Champions Day, O’Brien mentioned that Moore is progressing well but is expected to take his time to recover fully. When asked about Moore’s return, O’Brien indicated that it would likely be next year, emphasizing the importance of a long-term approach to Moore’s recovery.
