An individual volunteering at an animal shelter received recognition for rescuing a three-week-old kitten that appeared to have been rejected by its mother along with the rest of the litter. The mother cat, Paisley, and her kittens were brought to the shelter, where a staff member named Kelsey took on the responsibility of feeding the kittens.
Among the kittens were tabby cats named Prim and Pru, who exhibited signs of neurological issues affecting their balance. After Paisley was spayed and returned to her owners, the kittens remained under care at the shelter, adapting well to their new environment.
Prim, in addition to the neurological problem, also had an eye condition, but she showed great resilience despite her challenges. Kelsey, in an interview with the cat website Love Meow, mentioned that they treated Prim and Pru as if they had cerebellar hypoplasia, closely monitoring their growth and neurological symptoms.
Most of the kittens, including Prim and Pru, quickly learned to feed themselves within a day of arriving at the shelter. Although Pedro initially struggled, he eventually caught up with his siblings as they grew stronger from consuming solid food. Prim and Pru became more stable, but Prim remained smaller than her littermates.
Kelsey praised Prim’s determination, noting that she is able to perform all activities like her siblings, such as using the litter box, playing with toys, and being energetic. Prim’s playful and curious nature was highlighted by Kelsey, mentioning her interest in a dog named Fletcher who visits the shelter occasionally.
In a recent Instagram post by the shelter located in Indianapolis, US, it was mentioned that Prim is gaining weight and will undergo surgery once she reaches a suitable weight. The post also highlighted that Prim will require a home with someone willing to care for a visually impaired kitten. Plans to introduce her to more areas of the house to assess her adaptability were also mentioned.
The shelter emphasized the importance of providing Prim with the necessary support and care to help her thrive despite her challenges, showcasing her resilience and playful spirit.
