Two individuals were observed allegedly attempting to abduct a 15-year-old girl from a crowded city center street before being thwarted by courageous members of the public.
Video footage of the incident on Ladypool Road in Birmingham was recorded by CCTV just after 4 pm on Saturday. The teenage girl was seen walking along the street when she was approached by two men. They proceeded to grab her arms and tried to force her into the rear seat of a parked white Dacia, but bystanders intervened and prevented the abduction.
Onlookers positioned themselves in front of the car to prevent its escape, allowing the girl to break free. Police have reported that specialized officers are providing assistance to the 15-year-old, while the two men have been formally charged with kidnapping in connection to the event.
The accused individuals, Mohammed Ali, aged 49, and his son, Luqman Ali, 20, are facing charges of kidnapping. Mohammed Ali is also accused of false imprisonment and assault. Both suspects have been detained in custody and were scheduled to appear before city magistrates on Monday.
According to West Midlands Police, the two men were apprehended promptly, and the girl managed to flee from the vehicle into a nearby store.
A police statement indicated, “Two men have been charged with kidnapping following an incident where a teenage girl was coerced into a vehicle on Ladypool Road in Birmingham.”
“We’ve detained Mohammed Ali, 49, and Luqman Ali, 20, pending their appearance before city magistrates today. Mohammed Ali is facing additional allegations of false imprisonment and assault. This follows an occurrence on Ladypool Road on Saturday at approximately 4 pm, involving the forced entry of the teenager into a vehicle.”
“The vehicle’s departure was prevented by several onlookers, enabling the girl to escape and seek refuge in a nearby establishment. The suspects were swiftly apprehended at the scene. Specialized officers are currently engaging with the teenage girl.”
