Prince Andrew Faces Criticism Over Epstein Silence

Published:

Former Prince Andrew is facing criticism from US lawmakers for his lack of response as they intensify their investigation into the deceased billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Stripped of his royal titles and nearing the departure from his Royal Lodge residence, Andrew has been urged by US politicians to provide testimony regarding his extensive association with Epstein. Epstein’s death in prison in 2019 halted his trial for sex trafficking and conspiracy charges. Despite vehemently denying all allegations against him, Andrew has been called upon by the House Oversight Committee to participate in a transcribed interview concerning Epstein and the US government’s handling of the case.

Although the committee lacks the authority to compel non-US citizens or foreign nationals outside the US to testify, Andrew’s silence has drawn sharp criticism from Democratic members of the committee. They emphasized the importance of addressing the questions raised by documents and testimonies, including those from Virginia Roberts Giuffre. Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexual assault on multiple occasions, had her posthumous memoir released shortly after Andrew was stripped of his royal titles by King Charles.

In a parallel development, Donald Trump, who also faced scrutiny over his ties to Epstein, eventually signed a bill allowing for the release of the Epstein files after initially delaying their disclosure. This decision came after significant pressure and bipartisan support in Congress.

Following his title relinquishment, Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson mirrored his actions. While they still reside together at Royal Lodge, they are expected to part ways in the near future, with Andrew planning to move to another property on the Sandringham estate. Ferguson’s living arrangements post-separation remain uncertain, with indications that she will not return to cohabiting with Andrew.

Royal expert Hilary Fordwich commented on Ferguson’s current situation, describing her as anxious about her future and the public backlash she faces. Despite their prior close relationship, the fallout from the Epstein scandal has strained their dynamic, leading to disapproval from charitable organizations that Ferguson previously supported.
