Police are actively pursuing new leads and searching a property linked to the grandparents of missing 15-year-old Rebecca Reusch, raising hopes of a significant breakthrough in the case. The focus of the investigation is on Rebecca’s brother-in-law, who has been a suspect since she disappeared in 2019. Authorities suspect that Rebecca may have been killed by her brother-in-law on the morning of February 18, 2019.
Despite extensive efforts, law enforcement has not located Rebecca’s body. The brother-in-law, now 33 years old, was arrested twice in March 2019 but released due to insufficient evidence. The public prosecutor’s office has stated that they believe the suspect may have killed Rebecca and temporarily hidden her body and belongings at his grandparents’ property in Tauche.
Rebecca was reported missing after staying at her sister and brother-in-law’s home in the Berlin suburb of Britz. Her disappearance was noticed when she failed to show up at school after her sister left for the day. Surveillance cameras captured the brother-in-law’s car on the A12 motorway heading towards Frankfurt on the day Rebecca vanished. The investigation has led authorities to search a property in Brandenburg, approximately 54 miles southwest of Berlin.
Law enforcement officers, including a cadaver dog, are conducting a thorough search of the property and its surroundings using drones, ground-penetrating radar, and an excavator. Reports indicate that approximately 115 police officers are involved in the search. Prosecutors have advised the public not to interfere with the investigation following unauthorized online investigations by individuals. Further examinations of the site are scheduled to take place in the coming days.
