OVO Launches £56M Winter Support Initiative

Published:

OVO has launched a £56 million support initiative for the winter season, offering complimentary energy-efficient products. The assistance includes free electric blankets, smart sockets, and home efficiency kits. Additionally, OVO is providing free energy upgrades such as loft insulation, new boilers, and heat pumps.

To further aid those in need, OVO is offering enhanced financial support like direct debit reductions, emergency credit top-ups, and extended repayment plans. While this support is available year-round, applications for enhanced winter assistance will open in October. OVO has already allocated £190 million in support since 2022, benefiting 42,000 customers last year.

David Buttress, OVO’s CEO, emphasized the importance of this support package, stating that while it addresses immediate needs, a more sustainable solution is required to improve the energy system for everyone. Warm Welcome Campaign Director, David Barclay, highlighted the significance of accessible support in safe spaces, expressing gratitude for the partnership with OVO.

Vikki Brownridge, CEO at StepChange debt charity, commended the ongoing collaboration with OVO, recognizing the critical assistance the partnership provides to customers facing energy bill challenges during colder months. With energy bills expected to rise this winter, the Ofgem price cap will increase from £1,720 to £1,755 per year on October 1.

New research from OVO shows that 91% of individuals are concerned about their winter bills, with 71% expressing greater apprehension compared to last year. This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens and ensure households receive necessary support during challenging times.
