“Novak Djokovic Booed in Greece at Basketball Game”

Published:

Tennis icon Novak Djokovic faced a mixed reception in Greece, where he was booed during a basketball game in his newly adopted country. Earlier in the year, it was announced that Djokovic, a proud Serb, had decided to relocate his family to Athens, despite his roots in Belgrade.

Apart from his remarkable tennis career, Djokovic is known for his love of basketball, especially supporting Serbian teams like Red Star and Partizan. However, his presence at a Euroleague game between Panathinaikos and Maccabi did not sit well with local fans, as Panathinaikos, a Greek team, is in competition with Red Star in the rankings.

During the game, Djokovic and his son were shown on the big screen, triggering boos from the crowd, even though neither of his supported teams was playing. Despite the negative reaction, Djokovic remained unfazed, engrossed in his phone, while his son, Stefan, acknowledged the crowd with a peace sign.

Following the Panathinaikos match, Djokovic attended another basketball game between Olympiacos and Monaco, where he received a warmer welcome from the crowd. Meanwhile, Panathinaikos emerged victorious over Maccabi, maintaining a close race with Red Star in the rankings.

As Djokovic gears up for the upcoming ATP Finals in Turin, where he will compete against top players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Taylor Fritz, it is anticipated that he will be met with a more favorable reception from the audience.

In a separate development, Sky has introduced discounted prices for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, offering viewers access to over 1,400 live matches across various sports leagues, including the Premier League and Formula 1.
