Man Admits Killing Daughter, Attempted Murder of Mother

Published:

A man has admitted to the killing of his young daughter and the attempted murder of her mother. Mohammed Al Shaker Al Tamimi, 35, confessed to the murder of eight-year-old Malika Noor Al Kattib and the attempted murder of her mother, Aisha Noor Al Kattib, at their residence in New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland, on December 1, 2024. Both mother and daughter were assaulted, resulting in fatal injuries to the child. Emergency medical responders rushed to the scene and tried to save Malika’s life, but she tragically passed away at University Hospital Waterford. Prosecuting counsel Anne Rowland informed the court that Malika’s mother is currently in a fragile state and is expected to provide a victim impact statement in December.

During the court proceedings, Al Tamimi, with the assistance of an interpreter despite having proficient English skills, acknowledged his identity and pleaded guilty to each charge brought against him. The defendant was detained pending sentencing on December 15, where the victim impact statement will be presented, potentially leading to a life sentence for Al Tamimi.

Following Malika’s tragic death, New Ross Educate Together National School, where she was a student, activated a critical incident response with support from mental health professionals. Principal Theresa White expressed deep sorrow for the family, school, and community, emphasizing the need for privacy during this distressing period. The school’s Critical Incident Management Plan has been initiated, and the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) has been providing guidance and support to teachers in assisting students cope with the tragedy. Parents will be briefed on how to support their children during this challenging time.
