A popular home goods chain known as the ‘little Ikea’ is set to expand its presence in the UK by doubling its number of stores. Søstrene Grene, a family-owned brand that gained a loyal following since opening its first UK store in 2016, focuses on Scandinavian design and offers a unique selection of homeware, kitchenware, gifts, and stationery.
The store layout, reminiscent of Ikea and Flying Tiger in Copenhagen, encourages customers to explore slowly before reaching the checkout area. With successful launches in 47 new locations this year, including in the UK and Germany, Søstrene Grene plans to open 20 more stores by 2025 and aims to have around 100 stores in Britain by 2027.
The company reported a remarkable 130% increase in revenues year-on-year, with the UK market performing exceptionally well. In addition, they will establish a £36 million distribution center in the Netherlands. Mikkel Grene, the group CEO, expressed pride in the brand’s growth and highlighted the strong support from British customers, especially during the record-breaking Christmas season.
While several high street shops are closing, Søstrene Grene’s aggressive expansion contrasts with the contraction trend in the retail sector. The company’s growth strategy seems to be paying off, despite the challenging retail environment.
