“Late equalizer by Krutzen secures draw for Forge FC in Canadian Championship semifinal”

Published:

Forge FC managed to secure a 1-1 draw against FC Supra du Quebec in the Canadian Championship semifinal’s first leg, thanks to Daniel Krutzen’s late equalizer in the 95th minute at Stade Boreale on Tuesday night. Supra took the lead through Ibrahim Conde, but their struggles to close out games were evident once again.

Supra head coach Nick Razzaghi expressed mixed feelings, acknowledging the team’s character and solid defense but also lamenting the missed opportunities. The two teams had met just four days earlier in the Canadian Premier League, leading to significant lineup changes in this encounter.

Despite initially being outplayed, Forge, a consistent CPL top performer, adjusted their game plan to match their standards. Coach Bobby Smyrniotis emphasized the importance of avoiding complacency and staying focused on the competition.

The match saw a cautious start typical of two-legged ties, with Forge gradually gaining control while Supra relied on a strong defensive setup and quick counterattacks. Conde’s goal in the 36th minute gave Supra the lead, but Forge responded with determination, eventually finding the equalizer through Krutzen’s late strike.

Forge’s dominance at home, highlighted by their impressive record, bodes well for the second leg scheduled at Hamilton Stadium on September 15. The draw sets the stage for an exciting rematch as both teams look to secure a spot in the Canadian Championship final.
