Knife-wielding suspect arrested near Bradford College

Published:

An individual suspected of wielding a knife was apprehended by law enforcement for allegedly attacking police officers and civilians near a college in Bradford. Authorities responded to the incident at Bradford College early this morning following reports of the assailant brandishing a bladed weapon.

Security personnel at the college initially detained the suspect before West Yorkshire Police took him into custody. The police have arrested a man in his 30s on charges of assaulting two civilians and two emergency responders, with additional allegations of a racially-aggravated public order offense and damaging a police vehicle.

The victims, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, were promptly taken to a hospital. A small gardening tool was confiscated at the scene by the police. Detective Inspector Ailis Coates emphasized the importance of any potential witnesses sharing any footage they may have captured to aid in the ongoing investigation.

In a separate incident in Wigan, a school briefly entered a partial lockdown after concerns were raised about a possible armed individual in the vicinity. Greater Manchester Police conducted a search following reports of a suspicious item resembling a firearm, although no such weapon was discovered. Shevington High School informed parents that the lockdown was a precautionary measure and that the police had confirmed the area was safe.

Both incidents are under police investigation, with authorities maintaining a presence in the affected areas to provide reassurance to the community.
