A former teammate of Joe Marler from the England rugby team accused him of being betrayed in the finale of the reality show “Celebrity Traitors.” Marler progressed to the final episode of the show but was ousted by his companions.
The 35-year-old, who retired from international rugby in November last year, was selected as one of the 19 celebrities for the inaugural series of the BBC program “Celebrity Traitors.” Marler was in the Faithful group, tasked with identifying a group of Traitors.
Known for his outspoken nature throughout the show, Marler reached the final four alongside actor Nick Mohammed from “Ted Lasso,” with whom he had a close bond and agreement.
However, Mohammed had a change of heart at the last moment and his deciding vote led to Marler’s elimination, allowing chat show host Alan Carr to claim the entire £87,500 charity prize as the remaining Traitor.
Marler’s former England teammates were surprised when watching the show’s finale together. Second-row Alex Coles shared insights about the program and Marler’s true personality behind the scenes before their match against Fiji.
Coles mentioned, “We were all gathered in the team room. Joe seemed to have everything under control, especially with Nick on his side, and everything was progressing smoothly.”
“It appeared as if the outcome was going according to plan until there was a sudden twist. We had anticipated that he would perform admirably if given more time for people to understand him.”
“Joe possesses a charismatic personality, a great sense of humor, and it’s refreshing to see a different aspect of a rugby player being showcased to the public.”
Despite the intense final round of voting, Marler holds no ill feelings towards Mohammed. The two embraced when they reunited, and during an appearance on Saturday Kitchen, Marler finally spoke out about the unexpected turn of events.
“He [Mohammed] did not stick to the plan we had. He followed his instincts, which was unfortunate,” Marler admitted. “However, I still hold him dear.”
“Despite the heartbreak in that moment, I still felt affection towards him due to his appearance, gestures, and our bond.”
Marler also developed a friendship with comedian Joe Wilkinson on the show, expressing admiration for Wilkinson’s humor and intelligence.
