Former US President Joe Biden is currently undergoing a new treatment regimen for his aggressive prostate cancer, according to a spokesperson. The treatment includes radiation therapy and hormone therapy as part of his overall plan and is anticipated to span five weeks, marking a new phase in his cancer care. Biden had already been taking hormone medication prior to the addition of radiation therapy.
In May, Biden publicly disclosed his battle with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. Despite the challenging health situation, sources close to the President report that he is managing well. The cancer, though aggressive, is said to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management, as stated by Biden’s team when the diagnosis was first revealed.
In a recent development, the former President underwent Mohs surgery last month to address skin cancer. This procedure involves removing thin layers of skin until no cancerous cells remain, with Biden observed sporting a bandage on his forehead following the treatment.
At nearly 83 years old, Biden holds the record as the oldest President of the US upon leaving office, amidst concerns about his health. Since handing over the presidency to Donald Trump in January, Biden has kept a relatively low profile.
Reflecting on his cancer diagnosis in May, Biden expressed gratitude to his supporters and well-wishers, acknowledging the universal impact of cancer and the strength found in facing adversity. Notably, this is not Biden’s first encounter with cancer, as he had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest during a routine medical check-up back in February 2023.
Tragically, cancer has touched the Biden family before, with the death of his eldest son, Beau Biden, from brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46. During his tenure as Vice President, Biden initiated the “Cancer Moonshot” program to advance cancer research and enhance access to treatment.
Both Biden and his wife, Jill, remain dedicated advocates for cancer research and treatment funding, drawing from their personal experiences to support others facing similar battles.
