Italian Woman Dies After Liposuction Surgery in Turkey

Published:

A woman in business has passed away following liposuction surgery in Turkey, which left her in a coma. Milena Mancini, aged 50, died in the intensive care unit of Istanbul’s ISU Medical Park Gaziosmanpaşa hospital, 20 days after undergoing a weight loss procedure at a private clinic.

She had traveled to Turkey from Italy in September with one of her daughters. Approximately 36 hours after the surgery, she started experiencing severe abdominal pain due to a perforated intestine during the procedure, leading to an infection.

According to her uncle Luigi Di Palma, a complication occurred during the operation, resulting in a clinic-acquired infection. Her family was unaware of the surgery until she was admitted to intensive care, prompting some relatives to fly to Turkey to be with her.

Milena’s health deteriorated, and she remained in a coma for several days until her passing. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in Italy once her body is repatriated.

Milena, hailing from Isola del Liri near Rome, operated an estate agency after working as a financial consultant for years. She is survived by her husband Umberto, daughters Alice and Juditta, father Alvaro, and sisters Rita and Sara. Described as a determined and capable woman, Luigi remembered her as a warm and cheerful individual who had a good rapport with everyone.

In a separate incident in July, a young British woman named Ruby Khan, aged 30, died following liposuction and tummy tuck surgery in Turkey. The procedure took place at Medical Point International Hospital in Izmir, where complications arose, causing her heart rate to spike. Despite efforts to stabilize her, Ruby passed away a day after the surgery. A full inquest has been scheduled for a later date.
