An internet turmoil has arisen as a result of significant disruptions impacting Microsoft caused by issues with its cloud service provider. Here is a rundown of the companies that will be impacted by this situation.
Reports surfaced on Downdetector at approximately 3:30 pm in the UK, indicating that users were experiencing difficulties accessing cloud-based services, websites, and applications. The outage seems to be affecting a multitude of platforms reliant on these cloud networks, including Microsoft365, Xbox, Outlook, Starbucks, Costco, and Kroger.
This incident follows last week’s widespread outages of various websites and applications due to a global Amazon Web Services (AWS) disruption. AWS, which underpins the infrastructure of numerous digital platforms, is currently facing operational challenges, causing a disruption in a vast array of online services. Notably, this issue is also impacting Microsoft’s Azure services.
Microsoft has informed users that connectivity issues may prevent access to Office 365, Minecraft, and other services through its Azure cloud portal. The company has acknowledged the problem on its Azure status page and through its social media channels, stating that investigations are ongoing to address issues related to its Azure Front Door service.
The simultaneous breakdown of both AWS and Azure is causing concern, given that these two entities play a pivotal role in the global internet infrastructure, hosting a wide range of services from retail and entertainment to business operations and cloud storage.
Numerous individuals have taken to social media to voice their frustrations about the outage, with one user expressing dissatisfaction with the situation, stating, “First AWS, now Azure goes down. I love it when big companies own half the internet!!!”.
