“Homeless Man Brutally Attacked, Eye Gouged Out in Miami”

Published:

A man without a home recounted a terrifying incident where an individual violently attacked him, gouging out one of his eyes and savagely assaulting him by pressing his face into the ground.

The victim, Ronald Poppo, was targeted by Rudy Eugene, 31, in Miami, Florida, who stripped naked near a causeway and went into a frenzied state. Eugene’s behavior quickly escalated as he began talking strangely and yelling before launching the vicious assault.

Eugene proceeded to strangle Poppo using wrestling techniques and attempted to gouge out his eyes following a distressing day at the beach, as reported by The Guardian US. Poppo described the ordeal stating, “He assaulted me. He tore me apart. He gnawed at my face. He pressed my face into the pavement. My face was severely injured, my eyes were plucked out, and he was strangling me while clawing at my eyes.”

Poppo mentioned that initially, Eugene appeared content but suddenly turned violent. Poppo said, “I briefly thought he was friendly, but then he became aggressive. It seemed like he had a bad day at the beach and took it out on me. He grew increasingly hostile, yelling and making ominous threats. He seemed to be under the influence of something.”

Following repeated warnings from the authorities, Eugene was fatally shot by the police after growling at them. Poppo clarified that he had no prior interaction with Eugene and did nothing to provoke the attack.

Initial reports suggested Eugene might have been influenced by dangerous street drugs like bath salts. However, toxicology screenings revealed no substances other than marijuana in his system, ruling out alcohol or prescription drugs.

Family members of Eugene emphasized that he was not a violent individual and did not partake in substances beyond cannabis. His brother expressed bewilderment at the incident, emphasizing that it was out of character for Eugene.

Eugene’s girlfriend proposed a supernatural explanation for the attack, suggesting that someone had inflicted harm on him, denying that the violent behavior was characteristic of Eugene.

Poppo underwent extensive reconstructive surgeries and a fundraising campaign in his honor raised significant funds to support his recovery.
