“Hamilton Slams 10-Second Penalty at Mexican GP”

Published:

Lewis Hamilton expressed frustration over receiving a 10-second penalty during the Mexican Grand Prix, calling the decision “unfortunate.” The penalty was imposed for exceeding track limits while overtaking Max Verstappen. This setback occurred while Hamilton was in third place after completing 17 laps of the race.

Hamilton swiftly criticized the penalty over team radio, disagreeing with the decision made by race officials. He attributed the error to the track conditions at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, emphasizing the lack of grip on the surface.

Following the penalty, Hamilton re-entered the race in 14th position, significantly impacting his chances of winning. Shortly after, Fernando Alonso retired from the race due to a mechanical issue, becoming the third driver to do so.

Liam Lawson and Nico Hulkenberg also faced mechanical problems, leading to their early exits from the race. Hamilton, who entered the race sixth in the Drivers’ Championship standings, trailed 202 points behind the leader, Oscar Piastri.

Charles Leclerc, Hamilton’s teammate, held a higher position in the standings, with a 50-point lead over the seven-time Formula 1 champion. Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari has posed challenges this season, as he has yet to secure a Grand Prix victory, achieving fourth place in races like the Italian, Austrian, British, and US Grands Prix.

Although Hamilton is no longer in contention for the Drivers’ Championship, he aims to perform well in the remaining races in Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Fans can now explore the 2026 team kits from Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and other teams.
