Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada during its initial days of operation. The highly awaited bridge linking Windsor and Detroit was finally opened to traffic on July 27 after facing delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States through the Gordie Howe bridge in the first five days. Similarly, 18,100 U.S. residents crossed the bridge into Canada during the same period.
In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel in the region recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents in the same timeframe. Additionally, the data reveals that 4,100 commercial trucks made their way to Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the last five days of July.
