“Google Releases Crucial Security Patch for Android Phones”

Published:

If you own an Android device, it is recommended to check for the latest update from Google. The technology company has recently announced the release of a crucial security patch that addresses a significant issue affecting various new smartphones.

The concerning bug impacts specific Dolby audio components and, if present, could potentially enable hackers to execute harmful code through simple audio files.

While Google had resolved the issue on its Android devices last month, a broader release is now available for all Android phones.

Adam Boynton, the Senior Security Strategy Manager EMEIA at Jamf, emphasized the importance of the security bulletin released by Google in addressing a serious long-standing flaw that Android users should take seriously. The vulnerability, identified in 2025 as CVE-2025-54957, revolves around a flaw in Dolby’s DD+ Unified Decoder, allowing attackers to run malicious code without user interaction.

It is recommended to promptly update your phone’s settings to ensure it is fully protected. Although iPhones are not affected by this specific vulnerability, Apple users are also advised to check for updates as a precaution to safeguard personal data.

Regular patching is highlighted as an effective measure to mitigate mobile risks, regardless of using Android or iOS, according to Boynton.

To update your Android phone:
– Access the Settings app on your device.
– Navigate to System and then Software updates.
– Check the update status.
– Follow the on-screen instructions.
