A concerning issue is impacting certain Android devices, as users are noticing a rapid depletion of their phone batteries even when the devices are not actively in use. This problem seems to have emerged following a recent software update. Numerous Android users have taken to online forums to express their frustration over the sudden battery drain, with some individuals reporting the need to charge their phones up to three times a day to maintain battery levels.
The battery bug appears to be affecting Google’s Pixel phone series, and the tech giant has acknowledged the issue and is actively working on a solution. The impacted devices include the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 7A models.
According to insights from 9to5Google, the root cause of the problem seems to be related to excessive CPU wakeups, causing the phones to run continuously in the background even when not in active use. Users have shared their experiences, with one individual named Phil stating, “Pixel 7A – both my phone and my wife’s have had this issue since mid-March. Phones suddenly go from 20% to 0, are slow to charge, and batteries drain while switched off.”
Another Pixel owner, Fz, mentioned, “My Pixel 9 Pro XL battery drain started after the March update. Now I need to charge my phone 3x daily after the March update. My phone battery is depleted when I do not use my phone overnight. I charged my phone battery full before I sleep, and I woke up my battery phone only left 30%. It’s really annoying.”
However, not all Pixel users seem to be facing this issue, as one user named Warren confirmed, “Pixel 9 Pro, and no apparent battery drain here. At 6:30 am, it was fully charged. At 3:20 this afternoon, as I post this, it’s at 79%.”
Google is expected to address and resolve this battery drain problem promptly with an upcoming update. Updates on this matter will be provided as soon as new information becomes available.
