German intelligence agencies have reportedly uncovered information suggesting that the Kremlin is in discussions regarding a potential attack on NATO, as stated by a senior EU defense official. European Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius, emphasized the importance of Europe being prepared to protect itself from Russia and learning from recent drone activities in Ukraine.
In an interview with the Polish daily publication, Wyborcza, Kubilius highlighted the significance of taking serious measures in response to such signals from the Kremlin. The tensions between Russia and the West have escalated, with accusations being exchanged between Putin and Trump regarding the military capabilities of NATO and Russia.
Putin accused NATO allies of fearmongering about a potential attack and providing assistance to Ukraine, while Trump questioned Russia’s prolonged conflict with Ukraine. Intrusions into NATO countries’ airspace have been on the rise, with speculations that Russia might be testing NATO’s responses through these actions.
Recent incidents, including a swarm of Russian drones entering Polish airspace and encounters between NATO jets and Russian warplanes in Estonia, have raised concerns about potential military confrontations. Russia has denied any intentional involvement in these incidents, while European authorities have been cautious in releasing detailed accounts of the events.
