The Gaza ceasefire, eagerly anticipated, has crumbled as the Israeli Prime Minister instructed his forces to conduct “intense strikes” on the Palestinian region. This action came after the Israeli PM accused Hamas of violating the peace agreement, while Hamas retaliated by alleging that Israel had committed 125 breaches of the ceasefire.
Israel reported that a coffin provided by Hamas on Monday did not contain the expected remains of a deceased hostage. The ceasefire, which lasted two weeks, has now disintegrated into a wave of violence with significant airstrikes being authorized.
According to Gazan officials, since the ceasefire began on October 10, Israel has killed 94 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. In a statement, Hamas accused Israel of attempting to create false reasons to justify taking aggressive actions in Gaza.
Hamas claimed that Israel is impeding efforts to search for bodies in the Strip and urged mediators to allow humanitarian missions to proceed without political or aggressive motives. Tonight, fearful Palestinians in the Strip are preparing for renewed Israeli assaults.
Earlier on Tuesday, there were reports of intense gunfire and explosions in Rafah, southern Gaza. Israel accused Hamas of misidentifying the remains of a recently returned captive, whose body was recovered two years ago.
Israel’s conflict with Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 68,527 individuals and injuries to 170,395 since its commencement in October 2023. During the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, 1,200 individuals were killed in Israel, with around 200 taken captive.
The attacks on October 7 triggered confrontations for Israel with various groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah, Yemeni Houthis, pro-Iran Iraqi militia, and Syrian factions. This also led to US-Israeli strikes earlier this year on Iran, targeting its nuclear facilities.
Many of Israel’s adversaries, proxies of Iran, now lie in ruins, and it may take years for them to regain their former strength. The sponsors of these groups within the Iranian regime have also been significantly weakened by the prolonged conflicts with Israel, and Hamas in Gaza has suffered major losses.
Netanyahu has been accused of provocation aimed at undermining the ceasefire agreement. Muhammad Shehada, an analyst with the European Council on Foreign Relations in Copenhagen, criticized Netanyahu’s actions, stating that Israel has been trying to find any means to resume hostilities in Gaza.
Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, necessitating extensive diplomatic efforts to restore the peace agreement. It is reported that US President Donald Trump is closely monitoring the Israeli military actions against Gaza.
