“Formula 1 Driver Liam Lawson’s Close Call at Mexico Grand Prix”

Published:

Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson faced a shocking situation at the Mexico City Grand Prix when he had to slow down to avoid hitting two track marshals. This incident occurred on the third lap of the race as Lawson, who had just come out of the pit lane after a front wing change due to damage from the opening lap, encountered the marshals running across the track at turn one.

Expressing his astonishment and concern over the radio, Lawson emphasized the danger of the situation and the potential risk of a serious accident. Despite the close call, Lawson was commended by his race engineer for his quick reaction to prevent a collision in such hazardous circumstances.

In response to the incident, an FIA spokesperson stated that an investigation was underway to determine the sequence of events and the communication breakdown that led to the marshals being on track when Lawson approached. The spokesperson clarified that race control had instructed the marshals to wait until all cars had passed turn one before clearing debris, but the situation changed when Lawson pitted, prompting the rescinding of the marshals’ dispatch orders and the display of double yellow flags in the area.

Lawson, visibly shaken even after retiring from the race due to damage, expressed his disbelief at the incident and emphasized the need for a thorough explanation to prevent such incidents in the future. He criticized the unsafe practice of marshals running across a live track and vowed to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Mexico City Grand Prix was ultimately won by Lando Norris, who now leads the championship with only four rounds remaining, narrowly ahead of his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, who finished in fifth place. Formula 1 enthusiasts can catch all the action live with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which also includes access to over 100 TV channels and complimentary subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+.
