Florida Breaks Record with 18th Execution This Year

Published:

Florida has broken its record for executions, with Mark Allen Geralds becoming the 18th person to be put to death in the state this year. Another individual is scheduled to receive lethal injection next week.

Geralds, aged 58, was executed for the fatal stabbing of Tressa Pettibone during a failed home invasion on February 1, 1989. The incident left Pettibone dead, and her 8-year-old son discovered the tragic scene upon returning home from school.

Following the administration of a three-drug injection, Geralds was pronounced dead at 6:15 pm on Tuesday in Florida. The state has carried out more executions than Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina combined this year.

Various states have conducted executions in 2025, with Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina each having five, while Tennessee, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Arizona have executed two individuals each. Louisiana and Missouri have conducted one execution each so far this year.

The execution details, last words, and final meals of several other individuals who have been on death row for different crimes over the years were also shared, highlighting the circumstances surrounding their cases and ultimate fates.
