Prince George RCMP have confirmed the death of an individual following an emergency landing of an aircraft on Foothills Boulevard, approximately 1.5 kilometers north of North Nechako Road. Two motor vehicles were also involved in the incident, with one fatality reported from one of the vehicles. The condition of the occupants in the other vehicle and on board the plane is currently unknown.
Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the area as Foothills Boulevard has been shut down to traffic in both directions, with the closure expected to last through the night and into the following day.
The Transportation Safety Board will be leading the investigation into the emergency landing, which took place in northern Prince George on a busy road. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. PT on Foothills Boulevard near Highland Drive.
Emergency response teams, including B.C. Emergency Health Services, were promptly dispatched to the scene. BCEHS paramedics assessed a total of 10 individuals, with two patients being transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Witness Mohit Arora described the harrowing moment when the plane landed on the road, striking a pickup truck. He mentioned the lucky escape he had when the aircraft’s propeller narrowly missed his own vehicle. Arora emphasized the traumatic experience of witnessing the incident.
RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper stated that the situation involved two cars, making it challenging for drivers to anticipate and react to the unfolding events. Prince George Fire Rescue labeled the incident as a “serious motor vehicle event involving a plane.”
The Transportation Safety Board identified the aircraft involved as a Beech King Air 200 and announced plans to send a team for further investigation. Images captured at the scene depict a small passenger plane with a damaged wing and a broken propeller in the middle of the road, alongside a yellow vehicle and a pickup truck with visible debris.
Authorities have urged people to avoid the area, emphasizing that the road closure will be in effect for an extended period.
