“Emaciated Teen’s Harrowing Ordeal Unveiled”

Published:

After responding to a distress call, law enforcement officers encountered a 14-year-old girl who was severely undernourished, leading them to initially mistake her for a much younger child. Subsequently, the grim reality of her situation unfolded.

The adolescent, whose identity remains undisclosed, resided in a trailer with her family. She was discovered to be in a critical state of malnourishment after her father, identified as Walter Goodman, contacted emergency services on August 21, reporting that his daughter was unwell, unconscious, and alarmingly emaciated.

Medical professionals later determined that the girl was suffering from severe malnutrition, hypothermia, acute hepatitis, pancreatitis, organ failure, as well as bruises and bedsores. Her weight was recorded at a mere 38 pounds, significantly below the expected weight range of 84 to 160 pounds for a girl her age, according to Children’s Wisconsin guidelines.

Subsequently, Goodman, aged 47, his wife Melissa Goodman, aged 50, their daughter Savanna LeFever, aged 29, and LeFever’s partner, Kayla Stemler, aged 27, were apprehended on charges of severe child neglect, following a prolonged period of systematic neglect as reported by investigators.

The series of distressing events that transpired raised questions about the circumstances leading to the girl’s harrowing experience. The Mirror delves into the tragic account of the emaciated teenager, described by a prosecutor as resembling a “skeleton.”

Allegedly subjected to various forms of neglect including nutritional, emotional, medical, physical, and psychological deprivation, the unnamed girl endured five years of torment in her Wisconsin residence. Court documents indicate that the abuse commenced when she was just nine years old, portraying a grim narrative of mistreatment.

Confined to a locked bedroom where she slept on a bare floor, the household adults controlled her communication and limited her access to food, water, and sanitation facilities. Goodman purportedly monitored his daughter through a webcam in her room, confessing to the authorities about his restrictive measures.

Goodman asserted that his daughter’s autism hindered her eating and sleeping habits, despite medical staff recalling her excitement over food options during her hospital stay. Disturbing text messages revealed chilling threats made by Goodman towards his daughter, while Melissa Goodman, LeFever, and Stemler allegedly discussed physically assaulting the child.

The victim disclosed her father’s disapproval of her eating habits when offered meals at the hospital, expressing fear of his reaction. She had reportedly been absent from school and outdoor activities for an extended period.

Authorities confirmed the victim’s improvement and stability under the care of relatives post-hospitalization. Assistant District Attorney Julie DuQuaine noted the girl’s significant physical transformation and positive progress following the traumatic ordeal.

Despite initial concerns about her survival, a GoFundMe campaign supporting the girl’s recovery highlighted notable advancements in her health, including substantial weight gain and height growth. The fundraiser emphasized her resilience and gradual adjustment to self-care routines denied to her in the past.

Legal proceedings involving Walter Goodman, Melissa Goodman, LeFever, and Stemler continued, with court appearances scheduled to address the allegations of child neglect. The community support and ongoing care have contributed to the victim’s recovery and hopeful outlook towards a better future.
