“Driver on M6 Motorway Ticketed for Lane Hogging”

Published:

A motorist was pulled over by authorities and issued a citation for violating a rule they were likely unaware of while driving on the M6 motorway.

The surprised driver was stopped in Warwickshire and given the ticket following a warning from the police, who noted an increase in similar driving behavior on the motorway. Traffic officers stated that the driver was moving too slowly, between 55mph and 60mph, and was also hogging the middle lane.

Warwickshire Police described it as a “substandard driving behavior” and highlighted a growing trend of motorists exhibiting the same conduct, seemingly oblivious to the associated risks. According to a statement on Facebook, officers observed a driver on the M6 Northbound in the middle lane driving at 55-60mph with no slower traffic or obstructions in the left lane.

The driver was escorted off the motorway and ticketed for failing to drive considerately towards other road users, with the likelihood of being required to attend a driver improvement course at their own expense. Authorities expressed concerns about an increasing number of drivers adopting this driving style without recognizing its hazards.

They emphasized that drivers in the overtaking lane are expected to maintain a speed close to the limit of the road, and by deviating significantly from this without valid reasons, they disrupt the flow of traffic and force others to overtake from the right lanes unnecessarily.

The police reminded drivers that while speed limits are not targets or minimum speeds, persisting in the overtaking lane well below the speed limit without any valid reason is considered poor driving behavior. They also warned that failure to adhere to lane discipline could result in penalties such as up to 3 points on the driver’s license and a £100 fine.
