In what was expected to be a routine court session, chaos erupted when a 28-year-old man, facing charges for the murder of his 20-year-old girlfriend, launched a violent attack on the presiding judge.
The accused allegedly killed his girlfriend, Eileen Pelt, by stabbing her in the neck while she was in his mother’s car. The mother informed authorities that her son compelled her to drive so he could dispose of the body near a wooded area.
During the trial, when questioned about his motives, the man shocked everyone in the courtroom by callously stating, “She deserved to die.” This statement elicited gasps from the spectators, prompting his family to claim that he was mentally unstable and unfit to stand trial.
As tensions escalated, the man’s mother left the courtroom distraught, leading the judge to declare a recess. However, as the jury exited the room, the situation took a violent turn as the defendant, David Paradiso, attacked Judge Cinda Fox, stabbing her with a makeshift weapon.
Detective Eric Bradley, who had previously investigated the murder case, intervened by shooting the assailant three times, resulting in his immediate death. It was later revealed that Paradiso had crafted two homemade weapons, one of which he used in the attack.
The accused, who had been incarcerated for two years awaiting trial, was found to have methamphetamine in his system during a post-mortem examination. His mother had anonymously alerted the Sheriff’s Office about her concerns regarding his possession of a weapon, but her warning went unheeded.
Expressing regret, Paradiso’s mother believed her son intentionally provoked law enforcement to end his life during the courtroom altercation. Despite documented mental health issues and reluctance to testify, the tragic incident unfolded, leaving his family devastated and questioning the failure to prevent the fatal outcome.
Amidst the sorrow, Paradiso’s brother lamented the events, questioning the system’s response to his sibling’s mental health struggles and the ultimate tragedy that transpired.
