150 corgis gathered for an international race in celebration of the small herding dogs from Wales, showcasing more than just their speed. The event featured a costume parade, a competition for the “smartest nose,” and a contest for the loudest bark. The fifth Corgi Race Vilnius took place at Vingis park in Lithuania’s capital, attracting participants from nine countries, including the United States and Britain, known for its association with the breed.
Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the growth of the event, noting an increase from 40 corgis in the first year to 150 from various nations, including the breed’s homeland. The main running event saw 94 dogs competing, with the American corgi GG emerging as the winner over a distance of 25 meters. Mr. Corgington from the U.S. finished closely behind, while Lithuania’s Moka, a former champion, claimed third place.
Aside from the racing, the event featured a costume parade with creative outfits, a challenge to find hidden treats showcasing the dogs’ intelligence, and a competition to determine the loudest bark. Mr. Corgington took home the title for the loudest bark, impressing the audience with his vocal prowess. The event also highlighted the camaraderie among corgi enthusiasts, with both newcomers and veteran participants coming together to celebrate the beloved breed.
