“Chilling Last Word Before Execution: ‘No'”

Published:

A woman who killed a pregnant lady and abducted her baby said a chilling last word before receiving a lethal injection. Lisa Montgomery, aged 36, had traveled to meet Bobbie Jo Stinnett, a 23-year-old lady she had met online due to their mutual interest in dogs. Bobbie, who was a dog breeder, was eight months pregnant at the time.

Under the pretense of buying a puppy, Montgomery gained entry into Bobbie’s home and then committed the dreadful act. She strangled Bobbie with a rope and cut out the unborn child with a kitchen knife in an attempt to pass the newborn off as her own. Montgomery was arrested the day after the murder, and the baby was safely returned to her family.

Following a trial, Montgomery was convicted of murder and kidnapping, leading to her placement on death row. In 2021, at the age of 52, she was executed by lethal injection. When asked for any final words, she simply replied with “no.”

The case garnered controversy as details of Montgomery’s traumatic life emerged. She suffered severe abuse from a young age, including sexual assault by her stepfather and others. Experts described her experiences as torture endured over many years.

Her execution marked the first of a woman by the US government in seven decades. Mental health professionals emphasized the impact of Montgomery’s childhood trauma on her actions, highlighting the need for understanding rather than condemnation.

Despite facing legal consequences, Montgomery’s abusers were never brought to justice, leaving her execution a subject of ongoing debate.
