The Canadian Elite Basketball League championship series will feature the Brampton Honey Badgers against the Winnipeg Sea Bears following both teams’ victories in their conference finals over the weekend.
In the Western Conference Final, the Sea Bears, led by three-time CEBL MVP Xavier Moon, defeated the Vancouver Bandits 107-96. Moon scored 24 points to propel his team to victory, alongside Simon Hildebrandt, who also contributed 24 points. Isiah Osborne sealed the win with a game-winning three-pointer.
On the other hand, the Honey Badgers secured the Eastern title by beating the Niagara River Lions 91-81. Tyrese Hunter was instrumental in the victory, hitting a game-winning three-point shot. Sean East II led the Honey Badgers with 22 points, supported by Trentyn Flowers with 20 points.
This year’s championship will be decided in a best-of-three series, departing from the previous single-game format. The first game will take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET, with Brampton hosting before the series moves to Winnipeg for Games 2 and 3, if necessary.
Moon’s return to the CEBL after a five-year absence has been remarkable, leading the Sea Bears to their first-ever final appearance. The Sea Bears will face a tough challenge from the Honey Badgers, who aim to join a select group of teams with two CEBL championships.
