A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition at a hospital after being involved in a car crash during a police pursuit. The incident took place in Sydney’s south-west around 11 pm on Wednesday, December 10. The young woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, was rushed to Liverpool Hospital along with the 21-year-old female driver and another female passenger, both in serious conditions.

According to the New South Wales Police, officers spotted a Ford Ranger allegedly speeding through a red light while on patrol. A pursuit was initiated after the driver failed to stop, but it was quickly ended due to safety concerns. However, police continued to monitor the vehicle.

Shortly after, the pursuit resumed, resulting in the Ford Ranger colliding with a BMW sedan and a Toyota Yaris hatchback at an intersection. The 21-year-old woman who was a passenger in the sedan was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the sedan and the third passenger were also hospitalized in serious condition.

The 17-year-old male driver of the stolen Ford Ranger was taken to Fairfield Hospital for precautionary checks and is expected to be transferred to Liverpool Police Station upon release. Investigations into the incident are being carried out by Strike Force Bennington, involving an independent critical incident team. The incident will undergo an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
