After securing three individual gold medals in swimming at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and four at the previous year’s world championships in Singapore, Summer McIntosh is aiming for a grand achievement at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The Canadian sensation aims to clinch five solo gold medals, a feat only accomplished by the legendary Michael Phelps during the 2008 Beijing Games. As she flew over SoFi Stadium, the massive venue to host swimming events in Los Angeles, McIntosh felt inspired and envisioned her future success.
Currently, McIntosh is gearing up for the Pan Pacific championships in Irvine, California, a prestigious event featuring powerhouse swimming nations like Australia, the United States, Japan, Brazil, and Canada. The competition, held every four years, commenced with the open-water events in Long Beach before moving to Irvine for the main swimming events.
McIntosh, alongside a team of 42 Canadian swimmers, including Taylor Ruck and other medalists from recent Commonwealth Games, will showcase their talent in various events. McIntosh, under the guidance of renowned coach Bob Bowman, has strategically chosen her events for the Pan Pacs, focusing on her strengths and Olympic aspirations.
The championships will witness McIntosh facing off against top international swimmers like Katie Ledecky and Lanni Pallister in challenging races. Fans can catch all the thrilling action of the Pan Pacs live on the CBC Gem streaming app and CBC Sports website, with morning heats starting at 1 p.m. ET and finals at 10 p.m. ET daily.
