The 2026 induction ceremony for the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame showcased notable figures like former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim. Magloire, who had a 12-season NBA career, made history by becoming the first Canadian to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2011. His standout performances earned him an all-star accolade in 2004 while with the New Orleans Hornets. Following his playing career, Magloire transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Raptors during their championship-winning 2018-19 season. Currently, he holds the position of vice-president at the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
Smart left a lasting legacy at Carleton University by leading the men’s basketball program to an impressive 13 U Sports championships, establishing a dynasty during his tenure. Ayim, a former captain of Canada’s senior women’s national basketball team, had the honor of being a co-flag bearer alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The class of 2026, unveiled on July 2, also includes Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, and Teresa Kleindienst as players, along with coaches Peter (Doc) Ryan, official Janice Deakin, and builder Dr. Andrew Pipe. This distinguished group of ten individuals will be officially inducted into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame at a ceremony in St. Stephen, N.B.
