Lu Dort and Nickeil Alexander-Walker shined in Quebec City as they led Canada to a 97-92 victory over Argentina in the FIBA men’s basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifier. Dort scored 25 points, while Alexander-Walker added 26. The game, held at the Videotron Centre, attracted over 13,000 spectators.

Canada, ranked fifth globally, maintained its unbeaten streak with eight wins. They are set to face Uruguay in their next game before a rematch with Argentina. The top three teams from both remaining America groups will secure spots in the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar, with the best fourth-place finisher also earning a chance to compete.

Despite Argentina’s loss, Nicolas Laprovittola had an outstanding performance, scoring 31 points. The only other Argentine player in double digits was Nicolas Brussino with 11 points.

Dort, a Montreal native, made a strong impact early in the game with a three-pointer, setting the tone for Canada’s performance. Despite a slow start, Canada rallied back and cut Argentina’s lead before halftime. In the second half, Canada displayed a more aggressive style, outscoring Argentina in the third quarter.

Alexander-Walker took charge in the final quarter, guiding Canada to victory. Dort, playing his first game post-NBA playoffs, overcame initial rustiness and expressed readiness after taking care of his health during the summer break. Canada’s head coach Gordie Herbert praised the team’s effort in narrowing the lead before halftime.

The victory propels Canada closer to World Cup qualification, showcasing their strength and determination on the court.
