Cadillac Advised on Mick Schumacher for F1 Team

Published:

Cadillac has received cautionary advice regarding the potential signing of Mick Schumacher to drive for their upcoming Formula 1 team. Schumacher, a German driver, is among several individuals rumored to be in consideration for the new team set to debut on the racing circuit next season.

The addition of this new team has opened up two more racing slots, attracting interest from drivers who found themselves without a spot on the grid this year. Schumacher, aged 26, is eager to rejuvenate his Formula 1 career after his departure from Haas in 2022 following a two-season stint that yielded only 12 points from 43 races, failing to secure a contract extension under team principal Guenther Steiner.

Following his exit from Haas, Schumacher transitioned to the Mercedes team as a reserve driver, and later inked a deal with Alpine to compete in the World Endurance Championship, achieving three podium finishes so far. He aims to leverage his success in WEC to make a comeback in Formula 1, a realm where he believes he has unfinished business, expressing keen interest in potentially joining Cadillac, who are deliberating on their driver lineup.

In a recent interview with Brazilian media, Schumacher disclosed ongoing positive discussions with Cadillac, describing the opportunity as an esteemed project he’s honored to be part of. While the outcome of his pursuit for a Cadillac seat remains uncertain, former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve has voiced skepticism about the prospect of Schumacher joining the team, citing his lack of experience and challenging times at Haas.

On a related note, Cadillac is reportedly finalizing a deal to recruit Sergio Perez, a six-time F1 race winner who was released by Red Bull last year, and Valtteri Bottas, a seasoned driver with 10 F1 victories under his belt, is also a strong contender for a spot. Villeneuve favors Bottas due to his extensive experience, race-winning record, and tenure with the prestigious Mercedes team, asserting that Bottas presents a more compelling choice compared to Schumacher.
