“British Passenger Overboard: Cruise Ship in Emergency Mode”

Published:

A passenger has reportedly fallen off a cruise ship carrying British travelers. Vacationers aboard the Norwegian Jewel, en route from Barcelona to Miami, were startled awake at 2 am by the sounding of “code Oscar starboard,” a maritime emergency signal indicating a person overboard. According to a passenger, the cruise ship’s crew verified that an individual had gone overboard, prompting the vessel to enter “search and rescue mode,” currently navigating the Atlantic Ocean.

The Norwegian cruise ship embarked from Barcelona on October 15, 2025. An anonymous British passenger recounted, “I was sleeping in my cabin when the captain announced ‘code Oscar starboard.'” The message was also broadcast into the rooms, leading to the passenger researching the meaning of “Oscar,” which signifies a person overboard. Subsequently, an announcement confirmed the overboard situation, explaining the ongoing circling of the ship.

Efforts to reach Norwegian Cruise Line for a statement are underway.
