Apple’s AirTag is a must-have for those who frequently misplace their belongings. Launched in 2021, these compact trackers have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. AirTags are versatile and can be attached to keys, bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
The latest AirTag model boasts an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, enhancing its tracking range. Apple claims that this advancement improves Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it easier to locate items from a greater distance. Additionally, Precision Finding is now compatible with select Apple Watch models, allowing users to locate misplaced items from their wrist.
Apple has also enhanced the new AirTag’s sound capabilities. With a redesigned internal speaker, the device can emit sounds that are 50% louder than previous models, making it easier to locate even in hard-to-reach places.
AirTags function through Apple’s Find My network, which leverages nearby Apple devices to anonymously relay location updates. The system prioritizes privacy, with no location history stored on the AirTag itself. All communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end, ensuring only the owner can access the location information.
The updated AirTag integrates seamlessly with the Share Item Location feature on iOS, enabling users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines. Apple has partnered with over 50 airlines to support this functionality.
Customers can now order the new AirTag from apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original model.
