Apple has officially announced that the new iOS 26 operating system will be available today, introducing a range of fresh features and enhancements for iPhone users. The update includes a revamped Liquid Glass design, an innovative lock screen, real-time translation for travelers, and enhanced spam protection to automatically block unwanted calls.
Improvements have also been made to Messages, Mail, Photos, and the Maps app, which now recognizes users’ preferred routes. The release of iOS 26 is highly anticipated, but the exact launch time has not been disclosed by Apple.
Typically, iOS updates are rolled out around 6pm BST, based on historical patterns. To download iOS 26, it is advisable to connect to a Wi-Fi network as the update is expected to be a large file. Once available, users can access the update by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.
It is important to note that due to high demand, installation may take longer if done immediately after release. Additionally, not all iPhone models are compatible with iOS 26, specifically the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, expressed excitement about the release, highlighting the new design and feature enhancements that aim to make the iPhone more helpful and personal for users. The update integrates Apple Intelligence capabilities to streamline user experiences and productivity.
