“Trump’s Scottish Golf Resorts See Record Sales, Financial Losses”

Published:

Donald Trump’s golf courses in Scotland experienced financial losses last year despite achieving record sales. Financial reports submitted to Companies House for the resorts at the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire and Turnberry in Ayrshire revealed that Turnberry, which was bought for £29.5 million in June 2014, saw a 15% increase in turnover in 2024, reaching a new high of £23.2 million. This growth was attributed to affluent tourists who frequented the site for golf rounds that could cost over £1,000.

SLC Turnberry, the operating company for the resort, declared an operating profit of £2.3 million for the year ending December 31, 2024. However, after factoring in depreciation charges, it recorded an overall loss of £631,779.

Trump International Golf Links, situated in the northeast of Scotland and opened by Trump in 2012 following environmental controversies, reported a loss for the 13th consecutive year despite achieving its best financial performance. The total loss for the year amounted to £937,693, an improvement from the previous year’s loss of £1.4 million.

During a visit to Scotland in July, Trump inaugurated a second course at the site, boasting it as one of the world’s finest and pledging to create 800 jobs at the resort. Despite this, the business only employed 108 individuals during its 13th year, with a total wage payout of £2.65 million.

After being elected president in 2016, Trump, now 79 years old, resigned as director of the golf business and transferred control to his family. Eric Trump, the White House chief’s son, expressed optimism in the future of the Menie Estate resort, foreseeing positive financial growth in the medium to long term with ongoing developments.

Sarah Malone, Executive Vice President at Trump International, Scotland, highlighted significant revenue growth in 2024 for both Trump Turnberry and Trump International Scotland, achieving their highest annual turnovers. Capital investments were made to enhance their renowned golf courses and leisure facilities.

Trump’s passion for golf is evident as he has spent approximately 25.2% of his second presidency on the green, according to didtrumpgolftoday.com, having dedicated 68 out of 270 days to the sport.
